5 Ways to Stay Organized This Fall
I know I know summer's almost over and you're like, why are you trying to force me into fall? But it's coming, so you might as well get organized and let your workspace inspire you! If you're anything like me, you work better when your space is how you like it. This is not a foolproof plan to be productive, but just some tips that I've found to be pretty helpful for one not-normally-so-organized-girl (me).
1. Keep an Agenda
This one may be a bit obvious, but it's often one that I neglect. When I actually do use my planner, I'm so thankful for it. During busy weeks, it's easy to get stressed when we think about how much we have to do. Sitting down with an agenda and mapping out your day from start to finish is so helpful. It shows you how much time you do have, not how much time you don't have. Staying organized with a planner can give you the freedom to say yes to things that matter because you realize you actually have the time for it. It can also help you say no when you need to because hint hint: you don't have to load your plate with too much. I don't recommend it. Sometimes having a planner just simply shows me that I'm human and I can't put everything on my schedule that I'd like to. So grab a planner for the fall! I've linked a few favorites at the bottom of this post.
2. Get a "catch-all" for your desk/workspace
Whether this is a decorative dish or basket, a file/magazine holder, or an actual desk organizer envelope holder/divider, get something that you know you can just throw anything in. Everyone has that miscellaneous stuff lying around, so you might as well have a designated place for it! For me, it's a gold envelope sorter/holder that I got from Target a while ago. It's where I put all of my paper that I don't want on my desk at the moment, but I'm not ready to fully put it away yet. If you need some inspiration, scroll to the bottom of this post!
3. Tidy up your workspace before you finish for the day
This is something I've realized makes a world of difference! I'm not the most Type A, super-organized person you'll meet. But a lot of the time, I do work better when my desk is clean. At the very least, I change the projects I'm working on so often that I need a literal blank slate before I can start a new one. Taking 60 seconds at the end of each day to tidy up my space makes it a lot easier for me to come back the next day and not feel like I'm starting in a mess. Of course throughout the day I'm bound to maker a nother one, but at least I know I'm going to start fresh every day.
4. Keep a notepad handy
This way you'll never forget anything! If you have a stationery workspace, keep a notepad there at all times to write down your random thoughts, reminders, appointments, etc. so you don't forget them. If you're more on the go, keep one in your backpack/purse/bag so you always have it on you. Sometimes we think we will remember those random thoughts throughout the day, but there's no sense in clouding your brain more than it already is. Take the pressure off yourself to remember every little thing and just write it down! You'll thank yourself later. (Somewhere my mom is reading this and smiling because she finally got through to me after all those years of saying "make a list!" every time I needed to remember something). Thx mom!
5. Make your workspace how YOU like it
At the end of the day, this is your space. Keep it how you want it! Maybe this doesn't deal directly with staying organized, but I believe that everyone works better when they have a little inspiration throughout the day. That may be a pretty notepad you just bought for yourself, a picture of you and your family, your favorite pen, or even a cool background on your desktop. Whatever it is, keep your workspace how you like it and you'll actually look forward to getting up and getting after it.
